Construction of Garment
Once fabric was dry I ironed the fabric into origami shape
Ironed into shape and waiting to be unfolded

Dyeing Fabric
After creating mood boards and through research I decided on a color scheme for my garment. I decided on red and black; I began looking for fabric with red and black in the design but realized that I would have to create the design myself to get what I was visualizing. So I went to the fabric store brought red cotton fabric and black fabric dye and went to work on it. Before dyeing my fabric for final piece I sampled designs on seperate swatches until I was satisfied with the design.
Below are images of the dyeing process, my dye samples, and finished pictures of dyed fabric to be used on garment.

Origami design on fabric
I like where this design is going I need to start thinking of a colour palette and what kind of fabric I want to use,
Draping onto Stand
After some sampling with origami techniques I was able to develop my own original design through the folding process. Below are some images of the design draped onto the stand using fabric.
I liked the design but needed to look into different fabrics because of fraying on the edges of the fabric.
Exploration ( Unit 5/6)
For this unit I wanted to incorporate techniques from origami and fabric manipulation into my designs. I began by learning basic origami techniques and eventually began to develop them further. Below are some images of my fist samples with origami and fabric instead of paper.
Squares are cut out, sprayed and ready to go in the heat press
(Calico, Cotton, Satin, Heavier Calico, Organza, Canvas Calico)
Flatten out design and lay fabric on top
Fold down and place into heat press machine for 20 seconds
I started by creating the origami designs on paper first
Completed origami designs on paper
Next I cut squares out of fabric and gave them a slight spray of fabric starch so that they would hold their shape a little better.
(Calico, Cotton, Satin, Heavier Calico, Organza, Canvas Calico)
Place other paper design on top of fabric so that the fabric is sandwiched
Final look before placed into heat press machine to set
