Exploration ( Unit 5/6)

For this unit I wanted to incorporate techniques from origami and fabric manipulation into my designs. I began by learning basic origami techniques and eventually began to develop them further. Below are some images of my fist samples with origami and fabric instead of paper.

I started by creating the origami designs on paper first

Next I cut squares out of fabric and gave them a slight spray of fabric starch so that they would hold their shape a little better. 

                             Squares are cut out, sprayed and ready to go in the heat press
                          (Calico, Cotton, Satin, Heavier Calico, Organza, Canvas Calico)

                                                  Flatten out design and lay fabric on top

Place other paper design on top of fabric so that the fabric is sandwiched

Final look before placed into heat press machine to set

                                Fold down and place into heat press machine for 20 seconds
